Constellation Poetry – A Visual Poetry Writing Tool
Turn Your Words into Stars
Constellation Poetry is an interactive writing art tool that turns word arrangements into star constellations. Instead of arranging words in straight lines, you click to connect floating words across the screen, drawing lines between them like star formations. The result is a visual poem with its own unique shape, a dipper, a lightning bolt, a spiral.

What is Constellation Poetry?
Writing doesn’t always have to be in straight lines, constellation poetry is a writing game where you turn lovely words into a sky full of stars. It is an experimental form of modern poetry that lets you connect words like new star formations. Perfect for both adults and children.
Instead of staring at a page, you click to connect words anywhere on the screen. The result is a poem that looks like a constellation, a shape that tells a story. Quite lovely printed out.
l like to combine art and poetry. My blackout poetry and prose tool allows you to enter a passage of poetry or prose, select your words, tilt, enlarge, or reduce them, and finally overlay it with images or sketched artwork.
How to Play
- Plant Your Stars: Click any word on the screen to begin your poem.
- Connect the Dots: Click the next word to draw a glowing line between them.
- Read Your Shape: Follow the lines to read your poem. Does it look like a dipper? A lightning bolt? A spiral?
Use Line Break to start a new line, Undo to remove the last connection, and New Words to shuffle the word set.
Why Visual Writing Helps
For children who struggle with traditional writing, constellation poetry breaks the rules in the best way. By removing the left-to-right, top-to-bottom constraint, it opens writing up to spatial thinkers, reluctant writers, and creative kids.
- Spatial Thinking: Engages the part of the brain used for drawing and maps, not just grammar.
- No Wrong Answers: Every connection is valid. Don’t like a line? Just undo it.
- Concrete Poetry: Introduces the concept of shape poetry naturally, without any formal instruction.
Adults find it just as freeing. I have more word sets and backgrounds coming as well.
